Re: Retirement Announcement
After much thought, I have decided to retire from owning and operating Andrew Homes, Inc. This is a good time for a retirement decision as the housing market is very slow.
Andrew Homes, Inc. will be completing the construction on its current jobs, and will cease all operations by the end of 2006. It will honor the warranties on all its customers’ homes.
Andrew Homes, Inc. has built over 500 homes in the last 22 years. In 2006 it completed construction of four very special custom homes each valued well into the millions. Their sizes ranged from 10,000 to 14,000 square feet. Their features included a total of 3 indoor pools, and 3 indoor basketball courts. One of them was also a very complicated insulated concrete forms (ICF) home. It was exciting to be involved in them and I know that all of those who worked on these homes or any of our other 500 homes feel the same pride of accomplishment that I do. It has been a pleasure being involved for so long with such an outstanding group of employees, subcontractors and suppliers. I think you would agree that they are the best.
On a related note, Andy Backus has decided he wants to own and operate his own building company. He will be building homes as the sole owner of his new company. In the last year he has realized he would rather build a much smaller number of homes so that he can be involved more personally in all aspects of construction. While his specialty will continue to be larger luxury homes, he will also build smaller custom homes in the 2,500 square foot range. He sees a strong emerging market in empty nesters that want a smaller home but with nicer features than they may have in their current home. Since I am too young at heart to be totally retired, I will be providing consulting services to Andy in his new company. On a reciprocal note, Andy will be helping me fulfill my warranty obligations to my Andrew Homes customers. So many of you will continue to have relationships with both of us for years to come.
